Dear Eclipse! If there is any file modifications outside of your weird interface, don't blow and tell me that I have to press F5. Just refresh it or gimme an option for it. Arghhh!

hello sir, i find your comment about eclipse absolutely distasteful as it makes me (as a founder) feel bad about my product. please refer to my email for any questions/concerns you have and if you need a hook up.

There is a preference to avoid this. Preference -> Workspace -> Refresh on Access. I agree that this should be enabled by default.

@Paul, @Zoltan I'm glad this site made that fixed after so many years :)

Just tick "Refresh on activate" and Refresh using native hooks checkboxes.

Yeah, it is irritating. However, since 3.7 (I think), there is the preference setting 'Refresh on access' in the General/Workspace page of the workspace preferences. Off by default, but solves the issue quite well.

Auto-refresh's interval must be 10 minutes or st, everytime I use auto-refresh I find myself still doing F5's :S

Turn on workspace auto refresh - it is off by default because native file change notification is not avail on all plats

Specify it in the preferences: General/Workspace

Workspace default settings: spell checking on, showing editor line numbers off. that totally makes sense.

When I cancel a task, it hangs and ends up taking longer than it would have taken to let it finish.

There is no safe way to forcefully terminate a running code block in java, so eclipse has to rely on the plugin (generally third party) code to check for its cancellation. Often they don't implement cancellation logic correctly in terms of check intervals and cleanup speed. Also it could be impossible if it's calling the code or tool that does not support cancellation. Sucks, but not sure what could possibly be done here. It's a very complex issue.

Could be worse. If you hit F5 in Visual Studio, depending on what's got focus, it tends to spend ages compiling then running the thing!

Go to Window - Preferences - General -> Workspace and check the 'Refresh Automatically' checkbox ☺

This deserves a pie chart on the download page. Please note: relevant CDT. 5% writing the code, 5% debugging logic, 90% debugging eclipse's constant hissyfits. I'm actually going to use something else. this is beyond the joke. its not ready for use.

Any IDE that refuses to SAVE MY WORK until it has finished doing some stupid parse or building the project is completely !@#$% up in my opinion.

"Sorry but your workspace is out of sync with the filesystem". Oh, well, guess I will have to sync it by hand, what other choice I have?
